What is the purpose of a square intumescent air vent?
Intumescent grilles are made from materials that expand when exposed to heat. This expansion closes the gaps within the grille to block fire and smoke from spreading. When installed correctly, intumescent grilles are designed to provide up to 60 minutes of resistance against fire and smoke. Square air vent covers may be used with intumescent grilles to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing finish or may have been specified for use by a passive fire protection specialist.
How do you install an intumescent grille?
When installing square ventilation grilles, it is important they are fitted correctly to ensure proper protection in the event of a fire. Can you put a square air grille on a fire door?
Yes, grilles can be installed on fire doors that have been tested with such an application. However to ensure it complies to fire safety regulations, it should be an intumescent air transfer grille. Depending on the type of grille and fire door, there are requirements you should follow if you choose to install a grille on a fire door.
