Air Transfer Grilles

Air transfer grilles are fitted into doors or walls to allow air to move freely around a building, helping it to stay ventilated. However, adding these into fire doors and walls compromises the fire protection, as smoke and fire can travel through the aperture created by the grille.

For fire doors or fire walls, intumescent air transfer grilles must be used. Unlike regular grilles, intumescent grilles expand when they are exposed to heat from a fire. As they expand they close any gaps and create a fire barrier which helps prevent the spread of cold smoke and fire for up to three hours.
