Protecta® FR Coating is a high-performance, water-based ablative coating used to enhance the fire resistance of mineral fibre boards. Its primary function is to seal the board and protect it from fire, smoke, and sound transfer when used in fire-rated walls and floors. The ablative properties of the coating resist flame spread and protect the mineral fibre core from fire penetration by significantly reducing its permeability, preventing the passage of hot gases and reducing the temperature rise on the unexposed side.
Designed for easy application by spraying, Protecta® FR Coating dries to a flexible, durable white finish. It improves the surface stability of mineral fibre boards, reducing de-lamination and providing a robust surface for further adhesive and fixing sealant applications. It is permanently flexible, allowing it to accommodate movements within the building structure. The coating is essential for maintaining the integrity of passive fire protection systems, particularly for linear seals and service penetration seals.
Key Features & Benefits:
- Certified Fire Protection: Extensively tested to European standards (EN 1366-3, -4 & -12) for a wide range of applications, providing up to EI 180 fire resistance depending on the system configuration.
- Broad Application Range: Suitable for sealing joints in rigid and flexible walls, floors, and ceilings. Can be used in unlimited lengths in walls up to 1,200mm high and floors up to 800mm wide.
- Acoustic & Air Permeability: Provides excellent sound insulation (Rw 55 dB) and has been tested for air permeability to EN 1026: 2016, contributing to the overall building performance.
- Environmental & Health: Water-based, low VOC formulation. Complies with BREEAM requirements for indoor air quality. Halogen-free with added fungicides to resist microbial attack.
- Durable & Long-Lasting: Offers a minimum working life of 25 years if conditions are met. It is resistant to UV, humidity, and frost once fully cured.
- Easy to Install: Simple and quick to apply by spray, providing an even film thickness and consistent drying. The coating can be overpainted with most emulsion or alkyd paints.
