Description

When fitting hinges to insulated timber or mineral fire door assemblies, additional intumescent protection must be installed behind both hinge blades.

For 30-minute fire-rated doors (FD30), you will need to fit 1mm intumescent hinge pads.
For 60-minute fire-rated doors (FD60), 2mm intumescent hinge pads are required.

For higher fire ratings of 90 and 120 minutes, a minimum of a 2mm pad is also specified, but you must always consult the door manufacturer's specific test data to confirm the required thickness.
