Fire door closers are an essential part of any fire safety system. By keeping doors closed, they help to contain fires and prevent them from spreading.

Once you’ve exhausted all of the adjustment options then it is time for a replacement fire door closer to be fitted.
You'll have to remove the existing one and install a new model in its place so that you can continue to meet fire safety regulations within your building.
If you need to remove a fire door closer from a door, there are a few simple steps you will need to follow.
Close the door, secure the environment and follow safety guidance so that no one comes through the door while you are working.

On a step ladder, remove the cover and identify the mounting screws.

Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the closer arm in place. Remove the arm from the frame.

Remove the screws that attach the door closer body to the door.

Remove the door closer body from the door. You are now able to replace the door closer with a new working one, you can find out about the different types of door closers in our blog here.
It’s important to keep in mind that with the fire door closer removed, the door will not automatically close behind you and will therefore not meet fire safety requirements in that state.
As such, you should only remove the closer if absolutely necessary or when replacing it with a new closer.
